Overview of the Laboratory for Condensed Aromatic Systems Synthesis

Abstract
A various building block molecules for the synthesis of a variety of perylene monoimides, naphthalimides and phthalimides will be presented. Some modifications of these starting molecules based on classical nucleophilic aromatic substitution and/or metal-catalyzed coupling reactions, as well as their application or promising application in various fields of organic electronics. Proposal of new naphthalene and atracene based spacers as a potential new fluorophore for OLED application.
Speaker's Introduction
Yulian Zagranyarski is a Doctor and holds the position of Professor at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Department of Organic Chemistry and Pharmacognosy. In the last eight years, he has held the position of Assoc. professor until 2025 and has been a Professor since 2025. His primary research areas are Organic synthesis of rylene dyes and pigments, naphthalimides and other aromatic and heteroaromatic condensed systems whit the various field of application such as OLEDs, OFET, DSSCs, anticancer agents, biomarkers etc. He has also been involved in international collaborations and specializations (University of Jena, Germany (2018), the Max Planck Institute for Polymers in Mainz, Germany (2011-2015), and the University of Anger, France (2024)). His research works on more than 50 scientific publications and 6 patents. He has an h-index of 13, and his publications have received 960 citations.
